Heading south on Rt. 1 from the tolls on the Tobin, on the former elevated Central Artery, through the old South Station Tunnel.

  • Maybe I'm wrong, but some of that construction in this clip was the very beginning of the City Square Tunnel you'd now go through, between I-93 and the Tobin Bridge.

  • 5:27 "EXPRESSWAY SOUTH" Ohhh man! I totally forgot the completely accurate yet totally uninformative messages on those overhead directional signs. That section of I-93 next to Albany Street was the absolute worst stretch of highway in the state. Worse than even the old Central Artery viaduct and South Station Tunnel between the Mass Pike and I-93.

  • I lived in Lynn (Lynn, Lynn, City o' Sin!) in 1987 to 1989 and I worked in South Boston. Let me tell you, driving in in the morning was no picnic and driving back in the afternoon was even worse.
