ICON Aircraft's Revolutionary Sport Plane Makes Public Debut

ICON Aircraft, a start-up Light Sport Aircraft manufacturer, publicly unveiled the ICON A5 consumer sport plane yesterday on the opening day of AirVenture 2008, the world's largest aviation event taking place in Oshkosh, Wis. The two-seat sport plane is amphibious with retractable landing gear that allows for takeoffs and landings on both land and water. The ICON A5 has already drawn significant interest due to its consumer-friendly design, highlighted by folding wings that allow the plane to be easily stored or towed on the road with a trailer.

How does that remind you of Dune? not being critical, love the movie (anyone who has not seen it is missing out). The sound track for me maybe. Very interesting though. I think i'll schedule a viewing of that this weekend.

IIRC you can order the optional powered folding wings OR the optional retractable undercarriage, but not both on the same aircraft due to weight constraints. This ac then is just a demo as it has both.

it could do with a cetral lifting point to sit on the aft end of a flybridge/sundeck. Just lower it to the water and off you go Brilliant concept
