This here is your basic combination of Beatles, Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix, Zappa, hints of new wave and miscellaneous rock 'n roll all rolled up in one. Oh yes, and amazing guitar and vocals. Other than that, just your average white band. ; )

Here in Houston, at least for suburbanites like myself, in high school all we listened to was Van Halen and the Rolling Stones. When The Cars debuted in 1978 they were completely different from anything else we had heard. Of course the really COOL kids in my high school were already listening to Joy Division and the Sex Pistols by that time... but the Cars were still pretty different for us.
