La Medal of Honor (Médaille d'honneur) est la plus haute distinction militaire des États-Unis d'Amérique. Il en existe trois versions différentes : celle de l'US Army, celle de l'US Navy et celle de l'US Air Force. Le ruban de la médaille est identique dans les trois versions. La médaille est parfois nommée par erreur Médaille d'honneur du congrès parce que le président américain remet la récompense au nom du Congrès des États-Unis[2]. La médaille récompense des membres de l'armée américaine qui se sont distingués en mettant leur vie en péril au profit de l'intérêt général, en accomplissant un acte d'héroïsme ou de bravoure exceptionnel au combat[3]. Cet acte doit être tel que son non-accomplissement n'aurait pu être reproché à l'intéressé.

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is bestowed on a member of the United States armed forces who distinguishes himself "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States."[1] Because of the nature of its criteria, the medal is often awarded posthumously.

荣誉勋章是美国唯一不能合法买卖的奖章。非获得人在公共场合穿戴它也是违法的。违法者可在美国法典第18章33节704条下被判罚款及监禁不超过1年
