Thailand's Former Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra "humbly" urged the country's king to intervene to help resolve the country's recent political rift. He also called on his supporters to act peacefully. [Thaksin Shinawatra, Former Thai Prime Minister]: "I would humbly urge his majesty. All the Thai are his subjects. Why don't he come and help to heal this rift by coming into, ask them to come to negotiations.'' The self-exiled Thaksin, ousted from power in a coup in 2007, says he would consider returning to Thailand but only if he's really needed. [Thaksin Shinawatra, Former Thai Prime Minister]: "If I'm the solution, I will do it, but if I'm the problem I'm not doing it. I want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem." Thailand has been wracked by political violence in recent days, with Thaksin's supporters disrupting and forcing the cancellation of the ASEAN summit over the weekend.
