Portrait of an Atheist - part 1

I got tagged by ThoughtfulAtheist to answer some questions. I think these are the same questions posed in the "Portrait of and Atheist" series. As they are some very good questions, I figured I'd take a stab at answering them... and probably causing some controversy in the process.

I hope this leads to some good dialogue in the comment section.

Reasonable but making drugs illegal doesn't work when you give a teen rules what will they do? BREAK THEM! Lol, and abortion I wouldn't count the developing baby as a living person children can't think about what it is or even think rationally about what is what until their 7 - 9

That does not mean that the rule is flawed, it means the teen has problems that need to be dealt with. I don't think you can rationally justify elimintaing the lives of the irrational.

I'm not a Christian anymore -- and to be honest, it's pretty hard to describe what I am right now -- but you have a fairness of attitude in approaching things that I've rarely seen among both people who have faith and people who don't. Heck, I've been trying for a long time to cultivate fairmindedness and I think you still have me beat by a ways. I really respect that. You've earned yourself a subscriber, my friend.

I held my grandfathers hand when he died, but it was an incredibly beautiful experience for me. Death is an inevitability that we all face, so I don't see the point of resisting it. It is merely the reciprocal of birth... together creating the equilibrium of humanity.

It never ceases to amaze me how subjective the human experience is for all of us.

On abortion - it's not an actual person's life yet; nature (and the woman) has not invested as much in it yet. Think about it - if you don't grant the woman the right over her own body and how she should organize her life, you may be depriving another child (or children) that this woman may have, when she is ready, having had education, found the man she loves; and bring up in a lot better circumstances and give a better life.
