Hi,the black spacer is only needed if you want the cleat to sit further away from the shoe because clipping in is proving too difficult and the silver item should be placed on the cleat before the two screws this allows you to position the cleat where you need it before tightening it up. I saw your shoes and cleats but do you have compatible pedals, all clip-in style pedals come with compatible cleats and buying cleats on there own is only needed when the origionals wear out. Simon
