Fourth song for RPM 2008 by Bill Eager. Copyright 2008 Bill Eager. All rights reserved.

people are like paperbacks
they're perfect till you open up their pages

beginning and the ending
and the creases imperfecting where it matters

these people with their corners sharpened
wonder if they've ever left the shelf

i'll take them down and look them over
see if there's a word there worth a damn

so
my mark of gold
can i hide you in this page
while i crawl
up your fabric and escape

the moment that he realized
he wasn't any more than just a volume

floating in a band of asteroids
with no one out there he could read to

so
my mark of gold
can i hide you in this page
while i crawl
up your fabric and escape

no
i will not hold
while the story's still untold
so you say
i'll abandon this today

once upon a time
machines to prove you right
once upon a time

  • Sephy?!?

  • I really like the ending on this one. Wish it was on the finalized version, actually.

  • I love the line, "the creases imperfecting where it matters". I'm digging the lyrics in this song, and the chorus is a nice and contrasty in rhythm and such. One of my favorites out of the one's you've released so far, great job.
