@LogicalEuropean he died for a polmonary cancer in 1990. Perhaps,the cause was the begin of the cancer.

I was trying to get this performance with the NYPO but there is not on sale at least in the most popular shops . definitely is not due to the age of Bernstein , is only that bernstein from the eighties to nighties started to conduct oll the works again slowlier , Beethoven, Brahms Tchaikowsky, Mahler, etc. Nobody can deny tthe magesty of the nineth of beethoven in his performance during the fall of Berlin wall which contain all the solemnity of the piece. The version with BSO is also great.

i thought this performance was very mild, especially compared to bernstein's other performance of the same piece. was he tired?
