Raw Video: Military Releases C-17 Crash Footage

The military has released video showing the moments just before a a C-17 crashed. Four people were killed in the July incident in Alaska. A pilot's overly aggressive maneuvering and overconfidence were blamed in an investigative report. (Dec. 11)

With all due respect to the families of the deceased, our tax dollars as Americans paid for that C-17's very existence and we have every right to watch it cease to exist as well. Not releasing the full footage out of respect for the families of the dead is unacceptable considering how much other crash footage has been released in its full form with far more damaging context (crash of CZAR 52). Either release the footage in its original undoctored form or don't bother at all. We are not stupid.

The initial pitch looked to be too much, then the nose was lowered...standard stall recovery. Followed by level flight in the opposite direction of takeoff. So things should have been fine, right up until the pilot banked hard right and increased the load factor which lead into an accelerated stall.

What the hell was the pilot thinking? He doesn't even hit V4, just yanks the nose back....idiot. Maybe he was trying to show off to an observer like Schettino on the Costa Condordia, whilst both men's actions cost lives needlessly. The pilot's conduct as an aviator is disgusting.

Does anyone here understand how to fly? Fly a C-17 for that matter? Stall warnings provide just that, a warning. You are still flying when you get the warning. It doesn't mean you are actually stalling yet. What killed these guys was a bad set of three things at one time. A little too much bank, a little too slow, and a little too early on the configuration change. Had any of those three things been different, there wouldn't be a video here to argue about. Not some cowboy pilot.
