Hearing on Sexual Assault in the Military - Contempt for DOD

The Oversight Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs holds a hearing, "Sexual Assault in the Military." Panel one is Reps. Louise Slaughter (NY-28) and Jane Harman (CA-36); panel two is Ingrid Torres, MSW, CSW and Mary Lauterbach, Mother of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach; panel three includes representatives of the Defense Department, the Army, and the GAO. Torres, a victim of sexual assault during her service, testifies. Subcommittee Chairman Tierney and Full Committee Chairman Waxman threaten Michael Dominguez, Principal Deputy Undersecretary for Defense, with contempt after he reveals that he has ordered Dr. Kaye Whitley of the DOD Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office to defy a subpoena to appear.

I'm glad Michael Dominguez ass is retired. Clearly him and his superiors must be chauvinistic perverts if they will condone and try to hide what's going on. They need to be held accountable. It's a fucking shame that us women in the military have to serve under men like this who ignore and allow this kind of behavior to go on and are taking the sides of the perpetrators. I hope Obama does something about this issue before he leaves office.

What upsets me is that CSPAN does not have this hearing posted on their web site. In fact there have been several subcommittee hearings that are conducted and don't show up in their video library until weeks later, sometimes buried. This is important information in light of the recent reporting of how often rape happens in Iraq and elsewhere.
