Oklahoma Ice Storm - January 28, 2010

Accompanied by Dave Hennen and Brandon Miller from CNN, J.R. Hehnly took a drive from Chickasha through Cyril and Apache to document the ice storm. Freezing rain combined with high winds did a lot of damage to trees and power lines. It was much worse than in the Oklahoma City metro. Power was out in the entire area, and they drove over many downed power lines. Interstate 44 was closed and they heard reports of the NOAA radio tower in Lawton collapsing due to the ice.

ice storms are worse than snowstorms anyday. Even tanks have trouble on ice.

Here it is Thanksgiving day 2010, and again we are having an ice storm. Thankfuly no large tree limbs have fell yet.

I live in nelson county ky and we got worse than that.out bark on trees were completley frozen over.ll but some weird lookin stuff.

Arkansas gets ice storms really bad as well. At least as bad as Oklahoma does. The last big ice storm in NWA left my neighborhood without power for at least two weeks.

i remember this storm my house was out of electricity for almost 3 weeks
