Of course Peter was called "Petros" and not "Petra", because in Greek you don't assign a feminine noun like "Petra" to a masculine subject like Peter.

It has nothing to do with size, whatsoever. Furthermore, if you notice Jesus is asking Peter to identify him(Jesus), and in return Jesus identifies Simon(as the Rock).

Why should I believe a protestant interpretation? Its a little wilted blade of grass next to the Eiffel tower of scholars, theologians, and holy people of the Catholic church for 2012 years.

It's hilarious that Protestants claim that Jesus was referring to Himself.... if so, then WHY IS HIS NAME NOT IN HIS STATEMENT??? He could have said, "I am The Rock and upon MYSELF I will build my Church... and I am speaking to you, Peter, to throw off thousands of people who later on a drunken German named martin Luther shall confuse real bad"

Christ is the Architect who chose St. Peter to be the Foundation of (or Rock for) His Church. Christ is the Cornerstone, Peter a foundation.

Built upon the FOUNDATION OF THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS, JESUS Christ himself being the highest corner stone: In whom all building framed together, groweth into an holy temple in our Lord, [Eph. ii. 20-21]

Christ is the Head of the Church, the Pope, merely a Vicar.

The fact is, you're full of invalid excuses. Why don't you read the Early Church Fathers.

@christianstudents., you do realize that the Original was not Greek, right? Christ spoke in Aramaic, and Syriac to be exact. The word that was used, was Cephah (ܟ݁ܺܐܦ݂ܳܐ | Kîpâ) to which means Rock. Hence, Christ Said:

Thou art Cephah, and upon this Cephah. or Thou art Peter, and upon this peter.

Due to the Aramaic, there was/is no difference at all between Petrus and Petra.

1st off. Peter wasnt a catholic. He was a Jew and a follower of the Messiah. Who was perfect unlike Peter. In order to be a true Christian you must keep the commandments of God that were written in stone. John 14:15. Why do the catholics disregard so many of Gods laws? They put themselves in the place of God which is blasphemy. They worship idols, they dont keep the sabbath, they take the lords name in vane. Catholisism is not a true Christian faith. It is a mixture of Christianity & paganism

In the Holy Bible, there is not one truth that contradicts to another truth. You need to see your doctor the Holy Spirit of God.
