Coming to PBS in September.

THE WAR, a seven-part series directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, tells the story of the Second World War through the personal accounts of a handful of men and women from four quintessentially American towns.

From part six -- Mobile's Tom Galloway finds himself on the frozen front lines as the shells start falling in The Battle of The Bulge.

  • @crispybacon1981

I'm not sure why this comment was voted down. I agree - the repetitive soundtrack of the same men shouting in the background is annoying, even in this brief clip.

  • this war made the wars in afghanistan and iraq look like minor actions. the u.s. alone had 18 million men and women in uniform.

  • Hi,tannaly.

    I agree to a point.

The russian fighter was indeed a brave soul who wanted nothing more than to defeat german forces. But we must remember that Stalin pleaded with the U.S and Britian to open a 2nd front to and spread the germans.Without the U.S Lend Lease in ww2 (no matter how brave her fighters were)Russia would have lost. She had to(due to Stalin's purge)build her command structure and move her heavy industries to the Ural's to continue to fight. But your Post is somewhat accurate.

  • Not worth %150..

  • No argument there. It must have felt like hell on earth for them all on the Eastern Front.

  • Yeah, but the soviets went through a hell of a lot worse than the americans. After all, the Battle of Kursk was fought on soviet soil, and right next to the 88's, the german tanks were the biggest threat by land.
