  • I'll never forget the day I sat in my bed with the SF Chronicle and came across her name on the obit page. "Wait! I know someone with that name..." and then I cried when I realized it was the same Laurie.

  • It's so hard to fathom that she died just nine months after this was aired. Just doesn't seem right.

  • I am astounded every day listening to this what a CLEAR VOICE she had and such a generous, giving spirit.

    I don't care who is reading this and disagrees with me, but Laurie is the best singer I have ever heard live and it is my opinion that she is the greatest singer period.... I haven't ever heard such an amazing, powerful, touching voice in my life as hers. I cannot watch this without being filled with hope, joy, excitement, yet also sadness knowing Laurie was taken away from us so soon

  • @passodia2

    She did! She was in it just after this was taped. I got to see her 1 last time before she passed. From May 97 to the end of the summer, she did one last run, then passed away March 8, 1998. She never fully recovered from her chemo she started in 95, which was her last bout with ovarian cancer. I saw her in 96 for 2 shows at Rainbow and Stars and in 97 in Cats. You would never know she was ill because she sang with all her heart and her voice was in excellent condition.

  • Adored her. Sweet as her voice.

  • She was very talented. We lost both her and Nancy La Mott too soon.

  • she never got be in cats again :____{

  • I can't help but smile throughout this performance -- What a gifted woman she was. That last note is sensational.

  • a great loss to Broadway.

  • Beautiful vocalist.
