I didn't know Paul did this song....just goes to show you no matter how old you get, you learn something new everyday. Got to love YouTube....it's SO educational!

This song was written by Bert Berns, who eventually founded Bang Records. Multiple Bang recording artists, including Paul Davis (but not including Neil Diamond and probably not including Van Morrison), also recorded their own versions for the label.

I totally agree with you about YouTube being educational. So many songs and I didn't realize Paul did them. The man covered a few genre's in his time and I never knew.

This song was originally a pop and R&B hit for The Jarmels in 1961. Paul's version (Bang 578) was his first chart hit, reaching #52 in 1970. The version heard on this YouTube posting, though, is NOT the mix present on his original Bang single. Paul was born in Meridian, MS in 1948, scored 15 Hot 100 pop hits between 1970 and 1982 before going completely country. He survived getting shot in Nashville in 1988 only to die of a heart attack at age 60 in 2008.

This is a great song, and nearly all the versions I have heard of it sound good ... but this has got to be close to the best one ... Very smooth and very cool ! ... Wayne

Very first song I heard him perform. Rest well, Paul. You are missed.

Everything by Paul Davis is good, better and best! Would love to find "Editorial" from Singer of Songs, Teller of Tales. Thanks for posting this.

Paul Davis was one super human being. I never heard a bad song on any of his albums and he was always romantic. "Soap" was a super cover and thanks for sharing. I'd like to know if the follow up "I Just Wanna Keep It Together" has been posted by anyone yet. It's my favorite from 1970 and was a huge hit in Los Angeles. This entire album above needs to be released on CD. His Greatest Hits are missing some of the best. I miss Paul. Every song was unforgettable and he left us too soon. Thanks again.
