Once again I demonstrate another great use for freeze spray. In this case I'm using it to help find a bad component which is shorted to ground. The computer monitor I'm working on is a Dell. Model W2607C

  • One question please I wish you would show ringing the flyback on older CRT TVs. Any tips on diagnosing using just a vom or scope? Is the flyback usually grounded on the hot or cold side? My neighbor was an old tv and radio man from Korea and before but he has died now. I listened but he was too smart to impart it all in the time we had.

  • @madisonelectronic

Ringing the flyback is done by attaching the ringer to the primary side of the flyback transformer. When doing this you should pull off the connector going to the deflection yoke or you can get an incorrect reading since it's in circuit with the flyback transformer. Just for the record finding a bad horizontal output transistors is far more common than bad finding bad flyback transformers.

  • Awesome technique! I wonder if the short was actually after the mosfet somewhere, and that is what originally killed it?

  • @Maxxarcade Yea it did have a short after mosfet as well, and that probably was the reason it went bad.

  • Big thanks for another good technique. Sir can i use the freeze spray direct to the component when the unit is on? Thanks

  • @MrBogs88 It's generally safe to use freeze spray when the power is on.

  • I love to see something repaired instead of going to the trash. It seems few of us have the necessary skills though.

  • That's a great tip. I'll have to keep it in mind.

  • awesome technique... big thanks dave

  • @citizensbandman Yes It's not to hard if you have the correct soldering tools. Youtube is full of tutorial videos on soldering SM components.

  • Do you have any luck removing and replacing smt componets?
