Turkish Cypriot demos - Crisis of Government - Greek/English/Turkish

Political analysis of the situation in Turkish occupied Cyprus following the 2011 mass demonstrations by Turkish Cypriots against Turkey's policies on the island. This program was broadcast on 24th March 2011by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation featuring veteran political analyst Costas Yennaris in the Anoiktoi Fakelli - Ανοιχτοί Φάκελοι (Open Files) series. This 65 minute item features interviews in English with Turkish Cypriot politicians: Mustafa Akinci ( leader of the Peace and Democracy Movement PDM); Ozdil Nami (former advisor to Mehmet Ali Talat and "Member of Parliament" the CTP Party); Ferdi Sabit Soyer (Leader of the CTP Party); extracts of interviews with Serdar Denktash (DP Party) from July 2008. Also some short extracts from interviews in Turkish with participants during the 2011 demonstrations and some of the speeches in Turkish from the "Trade Union Platform" which had organised the events, including Sener Elcil.

The analysis spoken in Greek presents statistics from opinion polls conducted among Turkish Cypriots following the mass demonstrations, the results of which have only been selectively published on the Turkish side, which accentuate how the existence of the hundreds of thousands of settlers shipped into the Turkish occupied territory of Cyprus has outnumbered the votes of the Turkish Cypriots themselves, and obstructed efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.

The analysis spoken in Greek also makes the charge that 'western governments' and organisations are turning a blind eye to these massive demonstrations against Turkey by the Turkish Cypriots, at a time when world leaders are having conferences about how to handle the "Arab Spring" developments.
