"Hierdie Reis is a musical collection of dark and sombre poems of the South African writer Igrid Jonker, put to music by Frens Ehlhart. Although she had a difficult life that ended tragically and this is reflected in her work, Frans Ehlhart nevertheless finds it striking how light her language is. It is a special combination that her oeuvre, with all that depth and tragedy, nevertheless can radiate a light escape. Ehlhart has captured this combination and soprano Charlotte Margiono brings it across like no other can. Jonker was already famous, but her work put to music in this way, contributes even more to her rightful eternal fame.
I love her Vier Letzte Lieder from Strauss! These are beautiful too.
