Selver Zulum, 18, said Zeljkovic coached his little brother in soccer last summer.

"He's a good guy. He always tries to help out anybody . . . " Zulum said.

A friend who went to high school with Zeljkovic said he studied hard and was a good athlete.

"I never heard anything bad about him. He is a really nice kid," he said. "He studied hard."

"I can only say good things about him. I knew him since he was seven. I'm shocked," said a family friend who didn't want to be identified.

"He coached my kids for three years. I don't think he's violent. I've never seen him be violent."

However, one witness to the arrest, who declined to be named, told CTV News that the student had not been violent prior to the arrest.

"He didn't say much. He didn't try to hit anyone. He just seemed disoriented."
