actually you're wrong. Was a cross between Scottish and Irish, written I believe by a Scotsman as he was moving to Ireland. There are 2 distinct versions, one with a more Scottish sound and another with a markedly Irish sound. Both follow along a similar melody line, neither of which sounds like anything British.

I know what you are saying. For me they border on over production when compared to an older act like the Dubliners who had a certain roughness to the tone of their voices, but I can tolerate the High Kings. I don't think they are as overproduced as the Celtic women, for example. Some of my favorite youtubes are of Irish musicians like Dezi Donelly or Gerry O'Brien playing in a small venue or a pub.

Also, the lure of the money and pressure of greedy bastards the record industry turns many artists away from their roots. So, yes, what started out as a brilliant traditional irish band who can play as well as sing, may well have turned into what you could say 'an American pop act' cos that's what they've bought into.

Ok, sorry The High Kings are undoubtedly a class act. But, I still say there is something very 'produced' bordering on the synthetic in the sound of the voices at the beginning which gives the sound a 'cheese,' then when the instrumentation comes in it's all over-produced in order to sell mega-millons across the States and the world. That's what gets me. It's not about money, but about massive mega-bucks, largely going into the wrong pockets. The MUSIC is just a manipulated commodity.

Autotune? What the hell are you talking about ya daft bugger? That's for American pop singers, not Irish Trad. Next I suppose you'll say they autotuned the bagpipes.
