@alexia513 ~ The white feather has been a symbol of cowardice in the Britain forces since the 18th century. Thought to come from cock-fighting (a bird with white feathers is not a pure bred cock, and no good at fighting). Billy developed PDSD during WWI when his ship was sunk and his brother drown, he didn't return to active service and so is thought a coward by some of the community who lost loved ones or continued fighting. HTH

why does he keep getting feathers in the mail?
-
I should do a bit of research but always happy to have the crib notes. Does anyone know what the title " Lilies" signifies?
-
@Ifigureskate1 Well, it was just a guess because the drowning man in the film looked exactly like Billy - only it wasn't Billy. As Ruby herself remarked there used to be 3 swimmers in the family - but because the 'twin' drowned Billy became water phobic as a result that left Ruby as the only swimmer.

@hasawyah The sender of the white feather is inferring that he should have played a more active role during the war. That he should have been among the heros and those that died for their country.
-
@Ifigureskate1 Well, poor Billy watched his twin brother drown and was unable to save him. He's been having nightmares ever since.

@DAndraDreams Thanks for the explanation! I love this series, I've never heard of it over here, we have such crap tv, before cable it was worse and I so enjoyed visiting the UK just to watch the "tele" although they had fewer channels.....good times!!!>.<

Canvas, the colour of sticking plaster, soooooooooooooo funny and just like my grannies, she had them delivered in a long brown box from Camp Corsets.

@hasawyah The white feather is a way of calling him a coward. It was kind of like calling him a chicken.
