よろしくお願いいたします!

The Japanese Ministry of Cultural Affairs Subcommittee on Copyright Policies is holding deliberations on the inclusion of a concept of "Fair Use" in the upcoming amendments to Japan's Copyright Law.

At the end of August, the committee plans to hold a "Hearing With Related Persons" to discuss this topic with invitees to the discussion coming mostly from the community of traditional copyright holders, and just one user-side representative, Daisuke Tsuda of MIAU (Movements for the Internet Active Users) being invited to participate.

At present, this hearing is not properly set up to receive feedback from the various Japanese citizen and resident creators, users and IT industry people out there with an interest in this topic, which is of concern to Creative Commons Japan (CCJP).

In response to this, CCJP has prepared a draft survey aimed at such creators and users, to try to ensure that their voices can be included in this important debate.

The press release announcing the survey (in Japanese) is here:

The survey site itself (again, in Japanese) is here:

  • what does the four kanji at the beginning of your video mean?

  • They read "Hiko - Sa - E - Mon". It's my name. It's actually pronounced "Hikozaemon" but that name was taken, and you can still read it as "Hikosaemon" so I just go with that. As a name, it doesn't mean anything special, but there are some very cool historical samurai that had the name, so I like it.

    Peace

  • World's second biggest economy, a unique culture, safe, clean, friendly people with many ties to both NZ and Australia, learned the language at school, lived in Singapore and interested in Asian languages from when I was a kid, and the general lack of sheep in Japan as opposed to NZ.
