  • To each their own. Not everybody has to agree with my particular approach to painting. My methods, opinions, and procedures work for me, and my students. I appreciate the constructive criticism

    Stevie.

  • hey everyone!

i just uploaded a video of an oil painting that took me 5 months to finish.

i would like to get some feedback on it. so if everyone that reads this could check it out and let me know what you think it would help me out! the video is called -- monumental oil painting- from start to finish. thanks everyone!

  • You are right. Any dryer is bad for the painting. Oil must dry in its natural way.

  • I think that this palette is too complicated for a demonstration. You can get alot out of the earth colors, ultramarine, crimzon and a cadmium light. Also i was taught to hold off on the white until you absolutely needed it. You know what, I am going to post a video. it seems that oil painting is taught differently now. I can spend 3-4 hours on the underpainting using just earth color to get all the cool and warm areas defined before even using a cadmium red, lemon or veridian.

  • You should !not thin with any oil or medium for an under painting.ideally you should scrub in the initial layers (google "fat over lean ") personally hate all dryers and mediums\. all you need for a glaze is some linseed oil an a little solvant. slow drying is actually an advantage. damar varnish if you like.keep it simple, i say and focus on what you are painting and the pigments you are using and blending. over ther years your own preferences will evolve.

  • for base coats or your first few layers of paint you should add turpentine, then for the top few layers you should add linseed oil.

  • you sure use alot of colours

  • try using linseed oil..
