"Take your time"
On one occasion, a fencer decided to seek a master samurai to improve their skill in handling the sword.
Arriving for training, was just wondering
Master, how long will it take to learn what you have to teach?
The Master calmly looked at his would-be disciple in the eye and asked:
"You're in a hurry to learn them?
- Yes, Master! - Said the swordsman. - How long will it take?
- Are you really in a hurry to learn? - Has to ask the Master.
- Of course Master! He repeated the candidate, already in a tone of impatience. - How long, Master?
- Are you really in such a hurry? - Once again argued the Master.
- I said yes, Master. Let's not waste time with it ... How long, Master?
- Eight years! - Said the Master.
- What? EIGHT YEARS??! - Exclaimed, very disappointed, the swordsman.
- Wow, Master! ... Imagine then if I were not in a hurry, huh? So then it would take ... How long would not, not Master?
- There were only two years - concluded the master! ...
Patience and Haste
Patience is the greatest defense that an individual can develop, says the Dalai. It caters to all be put into place before drawing conclusions or making judgments. Sometimes you have to be silent, back before returning to the scene and take a step forward. Patience, however, to the Dalai is not default. It is the determination of optimal time for everything. It is the guy know how to treat your enemy's interior before dealing with external adversity. This is a difficult concept to understand because Western culture worships the rush. Is a fact that people live in ever-greater speed, eat more and faster. It's like we all, including you and me, in search of something that never comes. Make the most of things in the shortest space of time has become synonymous with efficiency. Subjects between us that may be calm and patients are considered missing and liabilities.
For the Dalai, however, is patience to understand that incremental improvements are the real and rapid changes are merely window dressing.
Serenity
Serenity walks beside the impartiality and not apathy, says Dalai. Have serenity to think before acting. Something that, at a later stage, is nothing more than meditation. Wisdom, according to the Dalai is not to put the imagination in the process of analysis and know how to wait without anxiety. In practice, a subject would always be a serene space of time between action and reaction. Time to review the situation with care, think about the consequences of their reaction and find ways to solve the problem rather than worsen it.
