Performances by K.C.-based entertainer Danny Croman and Friends, (Danny/Gary Ammons/B.B. Mendus)in July '03; posted for entertainment purposes. These are rare street performances in K.C.'s Plaza of his favorite trio combination to date at their best, it's a decent sampling of the street porton of Danny's overall entertaining venues. These are some faves, sound-wise, as far as excerpts posted from this combo. The cam and equipment was there more for getting the audio than anything else, as was sometimes the case. This should come as no surprise what with how cramped the quarters often are on portion of the walkways of which the gear can feasibly utilize for the set up. Besides, other priorities - like making money - opt out over trying to fuss with, aim and re-aim a cam situated atop a road-worn, hard-to-expand, wobbly tripod. This was a very hot day. Around the time, Danny had been doing a lot of moving around of belongings owned-by and paintings done-by the demanding but talented artist mother of the female singer shown. As is always the case on lengthy sets, the vocals have peaks and valleys, but, overall, these were among the stronger tunes recorded, exhibiting musical strengths of all involved! A good sense for the style of the tunes was shown by B.B., especially for someone just 18 at the time of this recording. Also this is a good example of the performing abilities by the semi-young fellows of the trio equation(Gare and Dan). The picking on adaptation-to-solo-guitar version of Back on The Chain Gang excerpted is a good example of Danny's bass-string-self-acompanying style, on guitar. On Lady M. and It's Too Late excerpts, Danny is playing the key board and Gary sitting in on guitar, with B.B. singing lead vocal on the latter of the two. The It's Too Late performance is a very strong one, keys work by Dan and vocals by B.B. have received high compliments. Her vocal and flexible learning ability on the song are indicative of B.B.'s style and talent, and at such an early point in life, is commendable. It's also a sign of the particular tutoring skills of Danny. Gary was also good to learn passable work on tunes that were unfamiliar to him, prior. Great excerpts. Some of this author's personal faves.
