  • Mine molted this morning... same species... unfortunately her wings have become twisted (she molted quite close to the bottom of the vivarium for some reason and i think she became snared on the ground) and her wings didnt do what your mantids did,,, they just stayed really small : ((( has this happened to you?

  • Not quite the same way. This year for the first time I raised my mantids from the day they hatched. One was only a few months old and it molted on the ground. It wasn't a final molt but some of the skin didn't quite come off and he got stuck between two sizes, died same day. But this mantis always had molting problems. (mentioned in another comment) Wings shouldn't be a major problem for your mantis as they rarely use them in captivity. Did the wings at least drain so the fluid isn't backed up.

  • @nowicki418 do you rear giant asian mantids ? chinese mantids are slightly larger than the giant asian mantis right ?

  • @keeyk118b Chinese mantids are the largest on earth, but a species does not speak for individuals. Their are some real giants out there. I've gotten my mantids from a festeval in the past so I have only raised the european and chinese. Am considering ordering some more exotic ones but haven't gotten to it yet. Right now I'm busy with the raising neotenic salamander series, ( seen on my homepage ) If your looking to get matids, chinese are large and fairly easy to care for.

  • @nowicki418 some say the idolomantis aka giant devil flower is largest.the chinese mantis is longer but the idolomantis has more massive forelimbs and larger thorax and longer legs. i caught a 5.5 inch giant asian mantis in the wild in singapore years ago.i catch wild juve giant mantis and rear them till they reach adult hood and release them back where i found them.

  • @keeyk118b That is way cool. So the chinese mantis is the LONGEST and the giant devils flower is the LARGEST. Good to know. I've decided that i'd better get some exotic mantids before I have to head off for college. I'm ordering some ghost mantids. They are small but a molting video would be really cool with something so unique.

  • @nowicki418 ghost mantids didn't work out. There are no breeders in my state.

  • OMG YAY MY NYMPH JUST MOLTED ::::DDDD

  • i think by putting a stout rough stick slanted at about 45 deg in the cage when the mantis is preping to molt, one can lower chance of the mantis having deformations on molting . they do not to arch up to pull themselves free from the old exo.

  • holy shit o.o how did they fit into that?

  • this is like dragon ball z when they go super saiyen they go to the next lvl of power
