On July 18th, some of the world's top athletes descended on NYC to compete in the 2010 Nautica New York City Triathlon. The race, which takes place almost entirely in Manhattan, consists of a one-mile swim, a 25-mile bike ride, and a 5-mile run. The swim, which takes place in the Hudson River, is widely considered to be the easy part. This year the event marked it's 10 anniversary with more than 3,000 athletes from across the U.S. and around the world plunging into the Hudson River before biking along the West Side Highway and racing to the finish line in Central Park. This year's top winners -- Czech Olympian Filip Ospaly who finished the race in 1:46:28, and second-time pro women's champ Rebeccah Wassner of NYC who finished in 2:00:25 -- each took home a $8,000 cash prizes. Wassner's twin sister Laurel, the world's only pro triathlete cancer survivor, took second place in 2:02:16.
