Image Montage lesson, recording magazine images and editing to music.
The concepts include: Theme/Message=Clear/Concise, Tripod=Less Distractions=More Illusion, Close Ups=Entertain/Engage, Length=For Edit.
Students first video assignment, shot in the classroom to make it easy to monitor equipment handling. Give each student feedback on their images including: framing, lighting, props, background, etc. The use of professional images assures their are plenty of examples to illustrate slick advertising techniques.
The edit is very easy even for students who have never used the editing software. The mix of wide to close up shots is a technique that once they create they are more likely to identify on the next video they watch.
In Review a music clip is played to spark students thought on what images go with what music. By using an unexpected visual theme student write their reaction to their preconceived concept and the unique one presented.
The Child water toys commercial can start a discussion of who they are targeting, the parents and the children. What type of shots did they use, what was their length, and what theme or marketing message does it convey?
