The container ship Rena grounded on Astrolabe Reef on 5 Oct, spilling heavy fuel oil out into the sea. The ship contains 1700 tonnes of oil, and oil recovery attempts and rescue efforts for affected wildlife are underway.
WWF staff are in Tauranga assisting with the rescue and clean up efforts.
