This is a model I built of the Monster of the Midway ride at Old Chicago Amusement park. This park was the first indoor amusement park located in Bolingbrook, IL in the 70's

  • That's cool that they had those types of rides elsewhere. The first Scrambler in the dark i rode on, was at the now gone, Myrtle Beach Pavilion in Myrtle Beach, SC. Who here remembers the Mind Scrambler? It was a simple Eli Bridge Scrambler in the dark, with lasers, a light show, & loud music. I won't never forget the Spice Girls' " If you wanna be my lover " song playing on that ride. It's embedded into my mind. LOL That's a great model of the Mind Scrambler-type ride!

  • I think the Monster of the Midway was one of the first. My daughter goes to college in Jacksonville, IL, which is where Eli Bridge and Co is located. I stopped in to talk to them once and they pulled up the original order fir the Old Chicago unit from 1975. I told them about the Monster conversion and they said that, to this day, they do not support any change to the scrambler that involves enclosures and dark rides.

  • I remember old chicago, and these rides, your models are all that is left.

    on youtube

    1. five minute home movie

    2. 2 minutes in the movie the fury

    3. your models of the rides

thank you for taking me back down memory lane.

I'll have my dad watch your park models sometime, and see if he remembers that time back then.

  • Glad I could help with some memories. I've got a long way to go, but I got nothing but time!

  • My dad worked at old Chicago back in the 70's and helped design this ride. I had always heard about the ride growing up, but never knew what it looked like, since I was born after the park closed down. Thanks for the model view. Now I know what they were talking about!

  • I recently talked to Eli Bridge, the company that built the scrambler for Old Chicago. Their records show they did not support turning the scambler into the Monster of the Midway. They felt such a ride being enclosed in the dark would be unsafe.

  • If i didn't know any better, i'd thought i was looking at a Cummons Scrambler model. Excellent build!

  • What's the matter abrakazebra, you run out of lotion again and can't look at porn, and you're pissed off?

Interesting model. There was a ride at Opryland in Tennessee that was enclosed like this, had fog, strobes, rock music, though I believe it was a Mack Calypso and not a Scrambler. Same idea though. I thought it was fun to ride.

  • I've got too much time? Who's the one looking at youtube videos of amusement park models! You know they say, those who can, do and those those who can't, watch youtube videos.
