I DO NOT OWN THE MATERIAL IN THIS VIDEO, IT IS PROPERTY OF THE RESPECTIVE PRODUCTION COMPANIES.
Part 1 of Joseph Cambell's Monomyth (The Hero's Journey) explained with help from Star Wars and Family Guy. Be sure to also watch my part 2. And I hear that part 2 is blocked in some areas, so if you liked part one let me know and I can email you the second part.

  • what the song called when princess was rescue on stage 7

  • @mnlcuellar Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye. Classic.

  • 4: Crossing the first Treshold. This is found more in where Luke enters the cantina. It's leaving the familiar world behind, and Luke feels completely out of place there.

5:The belly of the whale: That's actually the trash compactor scene. This was confirmed by Joseph Campbell himself in a documentary called the power of myth.

  • @cascador Though the trash compactor was my first choice it wouldn't have fit well with the other steps, considering it comes after Luke meeting Leia for the first time, which seems to me the obvious choice for "Meeting with the Goddess" and is a part of the second tier known as "Initiation." I still think that a wretched hive of scum and villainy such as Mos Eisley is a good example of the Hero's final step of separation from the life he once knew.

  • @jhutsal22 I would like to see the second part. Can you give me an email address I can send my email address to? - leviathan1957

  • i seen crap but this sucks

  • @jhutsal22 Yeah I agree, but like I said there can be some maneuverability as you said yourself. Cause I mainly pointed at the belly of the whale, cause in the documentary that I saw that was according to Joseph Campbell (or he at least agreed with the interviewer that this is the case) that this is the trash compactor scene in the documentary the power of myth. So I don' think that if you had made this change you would not have stayed loyal to what you refer to as Campbell's model.

  • @cascador The whole purpose of this idea is that there is a sequence of events that must occur in order for the protagonist to gradually progress into a full-fledged hero. It is the story of one character developing step by step so it wouldn't really make sense to jump forward and then back through the process. Based on how Campbell lays it out, each step is dependent on the prior step being completed by the hero.

  • @cascador I think there can be some maneuverability with the steps based on how you want to interpret it, but to refrain from straying too far from the Monomyth, I think at the very least, the three tiers "The Departure," "The Initiation,” and "The Return" have to be completed in order. Otherwise, it may be different enough that it is no longer Joseph Campbell’s model at all.

  • @jhutsal22 I think they aren't meant to be all in order. Some yes like the call to adventure, but other just fall in a different order depending on the journey. cause there are many hero's who take the journey. Anakin Obi-Wan, Yoda. And out of all heroes it's probably Anakin (Luke close) who takes most steps in the journey.

  • @cascador I agree with you that the trash compactor seems like an easy fit for the belly of the whale. In my arranging of the 17 steps though, I tried to keep them as chronologically accurate as possible. According to Lucas, A New Hope fits the whole hero's journey process itself and according to Campbell, the "Belly of the Whale" is encountered in the first tier of the process known as "The Departure."
