This salamander was approximately 30 cm long and living in some small limestone caves with nearby springs pushing water up through the ground near the caves. This salamander was about 3 times the size of the other salamanders I've seen on Quadra and was about 300 km from the nearest known range of the pacific giant salamanders...
so far, i am guessing that it might be a Ambystoma gracile (northwestern salamander)...

any ideas?

  • Yeah man, I don't know for sure. I saw this video before and I am leaning towards saying its probably a northwetern. Hard to tell by the vid, it also resembles a giant pacific salamander or even wandering salamander, none the less great find! Where is Quadra Island??

  • @AJherps

    yes, probably a northwestern...

Quadra Island is one of the discovery islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia, Canada. the nearest large town is Campbell River, BC.

thanks and keep up the great work on your vids... awesome
