I'm not sure how hard Gradius V really is (it looks pretty mean) but I'm pretty sure the hardest Gradius game in existence is either Gradius V or THIS.

Can you give me tips on beating this stage on the normal difficulty setting? I beaten it on the easiest setting, but normal, i just keep dying...
-
This was the stopping point for me. I can get through the SNES version on hard without dying once, but this...

Oh my god you took so long on the boss that it blew up on its own.

God I need to fire this up in my PS 2 again sometime, or just play the PSP version for awhile (chances are if I play the PS 2 version I'll jump on Gradius IV first).

By the way what difficulty are you playing on? Normal I presume?

Evil, evil game. But at least the slowdown helps... sort of ;-)
Wow, I didn't realise the double is actually useful! I'll have to try that again if I ever put this evil, evil game in my PS2 ever again!!

You're using a double on the stage 2, I don't use doubles on that stage. I alway use lasers, my weapon combo is, spread bomb missles, normal double, normal lasers, F option, force field.
Definitely laser for the boss, but double makes this whole stage much easier. Double = wide-spread enemies, Laser = focused power
Nintega, sorry I didn't see your question earlier. I can get about halfway through stage 3 on the arcade version. I don't like it; the game is too (cheaply) hard to be fun.

I find that Double is only useful in very specific situations (for example halfway through Gradius 2 stage 4 when there's an enemy pod in a small gap at the top of the screen, or on Gradius Gaiden for the Moai boss). I tend to use Laser for 99% of the game.
