Gotan City is a documentary series recounting Argentina from pre-Conquest to the recent past: myth, massacre and genocide, debt default, the courage of women, elegance and passion, the strength of the new cinema, new creativity. Each of the ten, half-hour episodes has a topical or recent point, e.g. continuing attempts to 'conquer' Argentine resources even today, or the rediscovery of Argentina's African roots in the Tango episode.

In recent years, analysts have seen the history of Argentina from the early 1900s to the very recent past as a case history of how a wealthy country can crash back into poverty: the dramatic story of high hopes and the dashing of those hopes, in the 1970s-80s, by ruthless dictatorship and, around 2000, by economic melt-down.

Yet, as institutions and economy imploded, the country's energies turned to developing new forms of social organisation and new avenues for social awareness, in an outburst of creative energy, in culture and the arts, especially cinema. In a country whose nation building, like the nation building of most countries, has been violent, contradictory and founded on erasure, especially of unwanted minorities and unwanted memories, national healing and remembrance remain a key requirement for opening up a new road-map for the future.

With: Adolfo Pérez Esquivel (Nobel Peace Prize winner), Fernando Solanas (national deputy and film director), Abraham L. Gak (economist), Hebe De Bonafini ( president of The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo), Jorge (Teresa Rodríguez movement), José Maria Peña (Museum of Buenos Aires), Ricardo Rodriguez Molas (historian), Daniel Hendler (actor), Carlos Poggi (chief editor El Gráfico), Javier Girotto (jazz musician), Marta Bianchi (actress), Lucrecia Martel (film director), Celia Martinez (national deputy and workers' leader), Alejandro Kokocinski (artist)

and with: Carlos Gardel, Diego Armando Maradona, Rodolfo Valentino , Norma Alejandro (actress) ...as well as many, many more..

Gotan City is written and directed by Fulvio Grubissich, Silvana Silvestri and Julian Bees with Armando Pronzato in Argentina - original music by Luis Agudo and Gustavo Delgado, and credit titles by Marc van Put.
