Enocean alliance presented self-powered wireless switches and sensors at the 2008 Las Vegas LFI show.
They are powered by energy drawn from movement, light or even changes in temperature rather than batteries. This harvested energy is used for transmitting sensor data over a distance of up to 30 meters, through walls, within a building to control lighting, blinds, heating or air conditioning without the need for cabling.

Ok. How about all the unused energy being fed to a harvesting box with a UL Listed Grid-Tie inverter system so people can sell energy back to the utility (PURPA law)? How about external home devices that harvest energy too?
I just realized: An authority force could gather sensor data to create virtualizations of things going on outside or inside a structure. lol. BIG BROTHER's upgrade. Beyond TV into environmental sensors that don't need energy. What a trippy time this is.
