Boston, MA Shipping Container House/Home Store -Puma Clothing/Conex Box

Derek "Deek" Diedricksen- on his lo-fi side episodes outside his show "Tiny Yellow House" hits the site of a Boston, MA container building/shipping-container store/house that is being taken down. His thoughts are speculation as to why it MIGHT be getting removed- as no officials could be reached- except for one of two departing workers, one of which who shared/alluded to his given guess. This store, made from conex shipping boxes/containers (usually recycled/repurposed) is an example of what could be done with tiny houses, small homes, vacation cabins, cottages, and holiday micro-homes, all on a budget.
Derek's opinions are not fact, just mere speculation....one person talked on site was directly related to the project, the other, worked in some unsaid capacity for the city.

I googled this place and found that it was a temporary installation that was associated with the Volvo Ocean Race. It was open and in business while the yatch race was in Boston.

@deezynar no, it didn't open- was supposed to- and was supposed to be open until May 16th- and its almost totally disassembled now (weeks prior to that date)....sadly...Boston did have the Puma City Container House on the waterfront last year though (in a much more industrial area). One of the heads of the project was the one who mentioned to me that this never opened- in person- and will not- for reasons unsaid (I have a few emails/calls out). Thanks- appreciate the info. Do you have any evidence that anyone complained, or that the city was influenced by any complaints? You're insinuating that the city acted to shut the project down because of political influences rather than following proper legal processes.

If your charge is correct, kudos to you.

I don't mention anyone in particular/department/person and start that phrase with "You can bet...", not "Here's exactly why this is happening...."- again, a segment in mere jest, but I guess its been taken the wrong way. I appreciate the input again, assuming its constructive in intent, and not just angry (hard to tell with the written word). Derek, seriously, what's the story? No contractor in his right mind starts construction on a commercial project in a major metropolitan area until AFTER they receive a building permit. I respect you man, but you're speaking hear-say and possibly slander. Call the planning and building department at the city to hear what they have to say. And ask them who applied for the permit and give them a call too. This is a pretty big story, ask the newspaper to look into it.

@deezynar We watching the same video? I appreciate the input- but who am I slandering? I only mention that the city shut the project down- which they did apparently. I haven't slandered anyone. I'm sure they started this with a permit too. Anyway, aside from what was meant to be humorous (the condo owners complaining about the view- and no one in particular (there are like 4 huge developments in the background)), I'm not sure why you mention that I'm slandering anyone- I'm left confused.

I stand pat. I've had projects rejected when I showed the city (or county) my first design. I've never had a project get thru plan review & then get rejected after construction began. I suppose that's happened before, but not to me. If that were common, no one would build. The issue here is that "The City" is made up of human beings & accusing "The City" of a misdeed is to accuse one or more of them. I'm not saying everyone is pristine, I'm just saying they're not anonymous.

This would have been a cool store. A few years back I watched a program about a design competition between multiple schools that involved making modern sustainable homes from shipping containers.

@deezynar lol you're kidding right? Or just really naive. The government is an over-bloated bureaucracy filled with uneducated zombies tossing darts at a board to make decisions. This type of stuff happens all the time. One agency approves something and the next one comes along to say it can't be done for whatever reason. One law can be interpreted many different ways and they all can ruin your day.

I never understood the appeal of Shipping containers. If I wanted to be limited by the foot print of an old small mobile home, I'd go buy an old used mobile home. By the time U install good doors, windows & finish the interior you aren't really saving any money over a conventional frame home. To each their own I guess. they may be inexpensive on the coasts, but here literally in the middle of the US their cost make them a questionable choice for the bones of a home.

@Timothy2035 Personally I'm unconcerned about visual aesthetics, but I may have something to say if U stink & make a lot of noise,cuz, it's hard to escape from those. If UR plain ugly I don't have to look, unless I need a laugh. dangeroud activities materials R something too complain about. I can't blame anyone who paid big bucks for a certain view for complaining, if the object of complaint is violating zoning etc.
