Masaki Kobayashi's masterpiece! My all time fav non Kurosawa/Inagaki Japanese film. Film's cinematography is just immaculate, often copied but never near its quality...Tatsuya Nakadai's performance as the doomed Tsugumo is just epic! The pinnacle of anti-Samurai themed jidaigeki. Some amazing swordplay presented in the film.
If you've never seen this get the dvd from criterion.com, if you've seen it before watch it again!
