Here's my quick review of the Nikon 35mm 1.8 AF-S DX lens. Pretty good little lens for DX cameras and it's really a wonderful deal for the price and image quality it delivers.

  • I have a d5000 and I was thinking of getting this one, but I'm not sure because it doesn't have vr. Can d5000 use non-vr lenses, I mean, I know it can, but will the photos be ok? Because my hands aren't that still and I'm worried that photos will be like I was shaking the camera or something :/ Can someone please answer? Thanks.

  • @katarinareal just keep your shutter speed up and you wont have to worry about camera shake...i would keep the shutter speed over 1/60th of a second...this is even easier with the 1.8 aperture this lens gets you...

  • @katarinareal Talking about VR on a prime lens is like going to McDonalds and order a salad.

C'mon ,VR is for focal lenghts over 100mm ,honestly ,not even the 18-55 needs VR. Use high iso and keep the shutter speeds low.

  • @LordMaxJa

i understand optics.perhaps i were not clearly speaking...

i have not compared the 18-55mm to the 35mm 1.8!!!

what i ment is that if i get the choice i would buy the 18-55m vr over the 18-55 non vr one.

and you are not right! 1/10 with vr is no problem at all!!! i´ve tried!!!

  • @seistillundwisse you don't understand optics man. an f/3.5 wich is the minimum for the 18-55 is 4 stops higher than a 1.8 of the 35mm ,meaning more light and higher shutter speeds for 35mm. 18-55 in the dark ,handheld? not a chance! Under 1/4 of a sec ,you can barely hold on to that camera and not shake it. Even 1/10 of a sec are hard to achieve hand-held. You want night shots ,get a tripod ,simple as that.

    So i doubt you'll need

  • @seistillundwisse oooh, there's a new one!

we should get ourselves a job. :D

  • @Here0s0Johnny i dream of the d800...

  • @LordMaxJa

but if you have vr you can shoot in the dark with low sutterspeeds and lower iso. so i would buy the 18-55 vr version!!!

  • i dream of the D700...

  • The hood is that short so it doesn't vignette

  • would this lens work with my d40??

  • great review. thanks a lot

  • Is there any truth regarding the 35mm 1.8 having focusing incompatibilities with the D7000? Many thanks.
