Cappadocia , ancient region of Asia Minor, watered by the Halys River (the modern Kizil Irmak), in present E central Turkey. The name was applied at different times to territories of varying size. At its greatest extent Cappadocia stretched from the Halys valley E to the Euphrates River, from the Black Sea S to the heights of the Taurus and Anti-Taurus ranges. Mostly a high plateau, it was famous for its mineral resources, particularly its copper and iron. Cappadocia maintained its local Asian traditions in contrast to the Mediterranean seacoast of Asia Minor, which was dominated by the Aegean culture. Several thousand tablets, written in cuneiform by Assyrian colonists in Cappadocia, have been found at Kültepe (Kanesh); they show that a highly developed trade existed between Assyria and Asia Minor before 1800 B.C. At that time Cappadocia was the heart of an old Hittite state. Later the Persians controlled Cappadocia. It did not yield fully to the conquest of Alexander the Great, and during the 3d cent. B.C. it gradually developed as an independent kingdom. Pontus now became completely separated from Cappadocia. The kings had their capital at Mazaca (later Caesarea Mazaca); the only other important cities were Tyana and Melitene, though Iconium was at times in Cappadocia. In the 2d and 1st cent. B.C. the Cappadocian dynasty maintained itself largely by siding with Rome. Invaded in 104 B.C. by Mithradates VI and c.90 B.C. by his son-in-law, Tigranes of Armenia, Cappadocia was restored by Pompey. Antony replaced the king, who had been disloyal to Rome in the Parthian invasion at the time of Julius Caesar, and in A.D. 17 Rome annexed the region as a province and Cappadocia became prosperous.Cappadocia, for sure, is one of the unspoilt destinations in Turkey and offers a lot more than a Traveller may expect. Cappadocia the name derives from Persians and was originally Katpatukia wich is thought to have meant The Land of Beautiful Horses or The Land of Sweet Names.Cappadocia itself is a seperate world in Turkey with the Historical and Religious Background. The First thing to fascinate you in Cappadocia is the formation of the lanscape, Before The mankind stepped on the moon surface, Scientist had thought that Cappadocian Landscape is of lunar but now we know it is not. Its exceptional lundscape makes it NOT-TO-BE-MİSSED when in Turkey. Secondly The Cave Dwellings of Cappadocia, especially those Rock-Cut-Chrches, is of interest.Below is a little bit pre-information before coming to Cappadocia.

  • @texpertf3 ASSYRIANS lived in Iraq/Syria not Anatolia. They moved to Anatolia during the Arab conquests of Iraq and Syria

  • @64Karaoglan Sure they did. They lived all the way to Constantinople

  • magmilitum!go&study history before writing lies and defamatons here.

read something,learn.. these caves built by Assiyrians who were old Anatolians in BC2000-1750. at that time Turkish people were in Asia. if you are not uneducated, liar and inglorious person you can read history without your nations lies and you'll see. Ottoman times was the most peacefull term in cappadocia and for all territory. Armenians killed many Turkish people, destroy all villeges as a result they were evacuated.

  • Güzel Olmus Clipin Hemso. Benim Cliplerimede bi bak bakalim birsey tanicakmisin. Selamlar

  • I do not see cities built into mountain in America.

There caves are built to escape persecution from Turks yet you are trying to tell me something that is not true.

America is America, they killed Native Indians and took their land. I am not Native Indian and I do not care.

But I am an Armenian and I care that your kind took my homeland, Anatolia and wiped out all Armenians from Anatolia and our close relatives Cappadocians, Pontics and Anatolian Greeks.

  • yeah you hate turks ok fair enough but do you feel the same against americans? no why because they criastian i would suggest you to wact ottoman empire english version in you tube they tolarete the different riliegions the west is coppying the same thing thats how ottomans got very strong not just army skills

  • Beautiful!!

  • Do you know why there are caves cities all over Anatolia?

These cave cities were built by Christian Armenian, Greeks and Anatolians to escape the butchery of the Turks.

This is nothing to be proud of Turk. These were made by people who feared and hated you so much they would rather toil and carve a mountain then call you a neighbour.
