McGaughey's extensive resume includes training the undefeated filly Personal Ensign, as well as champions Easy Goer, Heavenly Prize, Inside Information, Queena, Rhythm, Smuggler, Storm Flag Flying and Vandlandingham, won an unprecedented five graded stakes races at Belmont Park in one day --- October 16, 1993 with Miners mark (Jockey Club Gold Cup); Kelso (Lure); Frizette (Heavenly Prize); the Beldame (Dispute) and the Lawrence Realization (Strolling Along).

I have admired Shug most in my life. I remember the days of Vanlandingham, Mickey's Echo, Rackensack. Shug is the most honest horse trainer I have known. He is honest and good with his staff and with his horses.

I remember Rackensack liked to be vanned to different race tracks and he would always win when shipped. He was running in a big stake race at Churchill, so Shug put him on a van and had the driver drive him around Louisville, put him back in his own stall and of course, he won.

His Breeders Cup Preview Day in 1993 was amazing.. Phipps Stable went to the winners circle 5 times that day.. 4 stakes and an allowance won by Regal Solution...
