  • @tonyccc1 You know, Tony, meat probably didn't make your gout worse. In my light case of gout that was the case : meat made me better, fruit made me worse.

  • I have had gout for years, and tried just about everything without success.I reduced meat to, minimum once

a week, stopped alcohol altogether.I was having LOTS of fruit and vegetables and my gout was worsening.

Finally I have read something about Excessive fructose increasing uric acid.I experimented reducing my fruit

intake to 2 a day, and bingo within days I saw a dramatic improvement

  • @Awaitingcertainty The only agrument I would have with Atkins is his "induction" phase. His maintenance phase is where you should both start and stay.

  • Read Gary Taubes' incredible book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" - he got a big advance to take 5 years to "study the studies" and his results confirm Atkins 100%. DR. JOHNSON APPARENTLY DOESN'T THINK CARBS ARE A PROBLEM. ATKINS AND TAUBES' REVIEW OF THE STUDIES DISAGREE - but all agree that fructose (in sugar and high fructose corn syrup) are the greatest, most egregious offenders.

  • Sugar (which is molecularly 1/2 fructose, 1/2 glucose) AND high-fructose corn syrup (an artifiicial, enzymatically altered concoction foised on us in the 1970s since it's cheaper than sugar - and it's composed of 55% fructose and 45% glucose) ARE the biggest offenders - STOP EATING THEM. Atkins was right (and Atkins was just using prior studies; he didn't come up with his ideas himself, as he freely admits).
