opossums can carry rabies...i was bit by one about 2 years ago while walking to my car for a cigarette and I had to undergo the shot directly in the stomach...very painful. There may not have been a documented case in over 100 years of an opossum with rabies but they CAN carry it. Luckily the one that got me didn't seem rabid, just protecting her babies.

As far as damage by possums not attacking.They would rather avoid us,unfortunately,ant wind animal cornered can and will inflict a great amount of damage.
Possums as well as racoons also carry rabies,so even just a light bite will leave you with some serious and painful innoculations...if they catch the animal that inflicted the wound....it's destroyed and decapitated to check for rabies....so Disney,for the wildlife's sake,stay away.Misinformation is fatal to wild critters.
