In May of 2000 my nephew Cody and I went herping in the Nags Head, NC area while on a family excursion to the Outer Banks. In the first video (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezRV0ElhYXM ) Cody operates the video camera (for the first time) while we film a Cottonmouth and then gets to hold his first wild snake--an Eastern Hognose and my young niece Ashlyn shows that she is not afraid of snakes. In part 2 we follow a Red fox through the dunes and rescue a huge Snapping turtle from a busy highway!
These are some of the most memorable and wonderful moments from my life but they are also grand teachable moments that anyone can enjoy and learn from.
Corrections: at the beginning of this video I incorrectly refer to the fox as a Gray fox--it is a Red fox. I could not see it clearly enough through the camera until a bit later to make a positive ID.

Too bad NPS shot and killed this guy because he was looking for dinner (His natural prey "THE PLOVER") Sad aint it. NPS Kills the fox to save the plover to shut down the beaches... NICE OBX NPS!!!!

I found this fox in a State park--not National Park. I know the State does not kill any animal unless non-native or invasive as I have worked for the NC state park system. If the NPS is killing foxes to protect Plovers then you can bet that they have done their homework and it is in a controlled way in order to keep the balance we humans have screwed up in our lust to turn everything into money.
