First published in 1886, when Yeats was 24.

The drawing of Yeats was by Augustus John
The picture is the waterfall at GlenCar
The print is by Steven Brown

I was looking for images of Yeats Country - Lough Gill in County Sligo. Be sure to visit this page and download the video which gives a good view of The Lake Isle of Innisfree and other local attractions.

  • excellent reading, wonderful voice.

the only thing i don't like is the echo effect.

i think your voice is rhytmic enough and tonal enough not to have to resort to cheap tricks.

  • @hrryzdlr Maybe. But there are two distinct voices and the faery one needs an etherial, distant quality that is hard to create in a small office. I was influenced by practicality . It seemed a good idea at the time.

  • So beautiful it makes my heart ache.

  • Incredible poem. Yeats...a beautiful genius.

  • I think the echoing voice works well not only for its ghostly effect but also because it sounds watery as the child goes off to the water (frothy bubbles), sad and deep I’d say.

    Good poem!

    Thanks

  • Thank you so much, this poem means a lot to me and it is wonderful to hear it read by such a rich voice!
