@SikhDonya The 'cast' thing was used as an excuse by this family to hide the fact that it was actually about wealth, status, education etc. Shay's family wanted their privately educated daughter with good degree and job to enter a decent family where her husband had a respectable job & background. Sunny is a total flop and reject...in asian culture he would labelled as 'faltoo' (useless) or 'lafanga' (street thug)..the simple fact is that shay is way out of sunny's league and his family know it

@maxlogica Yeah they're quite self centered, but lets be honest, Kaki and Jeet are no different. And I don't use the word "chav" its politically loaded and derogatory. I'm aware of the "traditional" way in Punjabi society, I'm Punjabi myself I see this shit every day, its ridiculous and sexist. No two ways about it. Jeet has a toad up his ass because Shay had the balls to leave her family for someone she loved, against a mother who decided casteism was more important than her daughters life

@SikhDonya Traditionally the son in law is respected highly in asian families....however sunny and shay are so ' besharam' that certain family rituals they decided to overlook..it was all about 'me me me..me'.......sunny actually tried to pick a fight with his brother in law....how chav is that!!!!!?!?

@maxlogica Jeet was annoyed because he's not getting babied and sucked up to by everyone in the family. Plus he's jealous because Shay's the daughter in law and not getting treated like he thinks she should be. He says it clearly "you're the only man I know who put his daughter in law up on a pedestal," why? Because they respect her for leaving her family for their son?

@maxlogica Jeet's a crybaby. That's all there is to it. Saying it wasn't ideal is an understatement. Kaki was obviously having serious problems with her pregnancy and Jeet was a selfish turd for leaving her. All he had to do was wait four weeks. Its hardly a long time. The guy needs to grow some balls and be a man, make sure his wife and children were well, not hard.

@maxlogica How can you say she wasn't bothered? There's a whole 5 year chunk of the story you're missing and so you can;t say whether she did make the effort or not. Its obvious Shay's mother wants nothin more to do with her, which is upsetting for her, understandably. Its classic Punjabi mentality, that the parents believe their children have a debt to pay for bringing them up, which basically means they do as their told, or they piss off. Some parents are less able to compromise than others.

@maxlogica Alone? He made the choice to marry her. Sunny didn't hit him, they had an argument because Jeet is a typical chauvanist Punjabi man who believes daughter in laws don't deserve the same protection and respect as the sons and sun in laws of the family. Fair enough Sunn yis arrogant, but thats just surface personality, he's not a bad guy at all. I rate Sunny for defending Shay, Jeet didn't like it because it meant Sunny has balls to defend his wife and Jeet obviously doesn't.
