I recommend that you listen to the crystal gayle's version on the "this one from the heart" album, which has duets by her and tom.

Just before she died, I sang this song to my sister. She was in a coma. The doctors say that people hear stuff, even in a coma. I like the thought that the last Lizzie heard was a Tom Waits song. Miss you, girl.
