Paul Whiteman were rival I know that much. But I dont know why? From what I see Paul Whiteman was very prolific in recording and shuffling his cover bands around the country. Vincent Lopez Like the Coon Sanders Orch. used radio holding regular radio gigs for almost 15 years. Paul Whiteman was a Classical Trained Voila player that rarely arranged for his band and didnt included much that couldnt be rationalized musically. Vincent Lopez was a classically trained pianist and liked using rhythm and styles in the Original Dixieland Jazzband fashion.

  • Hello, You do a fantastic work with your 78 rpm!

Suggestion : for such a "decentred" (if the word exists) record : try to remove the central pin, or, if not possible, to add few records under this one, and then, carefuly, when running, "re-center" it. Or, but it's alittle bit dangerous, "open" the central hole with a sharpener, and then recenter.

How does it sounds for you?

  • @MrXnews I don't know if Lopez had harsh feelings toward Whiteman in the way Whiteman held them against Lopez....

  • I have an idea behind the Lopez-Whiteman rivalry: Lopez always favored a style towards original Dixieland, whereas Whiteman went for "civilizing" ("making a lady out of") jazz. Their preferences led them to think the other was the enemy of jazz music.

  • @benfleminc You can always expect great quality with an Edison vertically-cut disc!

  • Great job! But as a side note: Edison paper label discs with the checkerboard border do not have a stroboscope. That is a misconception: besides Edison, Marsh Laboratories labels utilize the checkerboard, for design purposes only.

  • For an acoustic recording, this is fantastic!
