Ripon College and the Red Hawks collegiate cycling team are participating in the Pepsi Refresh Project to secure a $25,000 grant. The funds will be used to hire the International Mountain Bicycling Association Trail Solutions team to help design and build a single track mountain bike trail in Ripon, Wisconsin.
With this mountain bike trail, Ripon College students and Ripon community members have the opportunity to lead healthier and more active lifestyles by exercising in a fun and accessible outdoor location. Since it will be on a Prairie Conservancy and we want to preserve the ecosystem, we're relying on the expertise of Trail Solutions to build a trail that is low impact and environmentally sustainable.
Ripon College established a program that provides a bike to incoming first-years who pledge not to bring a vehicle to campus. Building a bike trail will provide a recreational location for these students.
Wisconsin looks to form a high school mountain bike league, and, with Ripon's history of competitive bikers, this bike trail will serve as training ground for a future Ripon High School mountain bike team.
The bike trail will be a wonderful outdoor location for students and community members to lead active and healthy lifestyles in an enjoyable way.
