Victoria and indeed Australia has been shocked by the magnitude of the disaster caused by the bushfires raging throughout Victoria.
There has been a remarkable effort of thousands of people from emergency services, community groups, charitable organisations and welfare agencies who are helping as primary respondents to this crisis.
The Society is making a considerable effort to provide aid directly to those in need, including the provision of practical assistance, material aid, counselling, emergency accommodation and referral services. .
The St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria has the role of being a secondary respondent in crises such as this. As such, the Society will be focussing on the long-term effects of the bushfires, and will support affected communities to rebuild their lives again. We will be assisting and supporting these communities for many months and possibly years to come.
